Cebu, Philippines (1 March) -- The Development Administration Committee (DAC) has proposed 37 priority projects for approval of the Regional Development Council (RDC-7) in the region during its regular full council meeting on Marc 14 in Siquijor.

RDC-DAC chair Prof. Roderic Poca said, these 37 priority projects will hopefully be included for budgeting in the 2009 annual investment program of the RDC.

Some of the DAC proposed projects include the completion of the phase-2 of the President's Bridges program development and Finance Accessing that will cover the Laca-on-Mahamlod bridge in Jimalalud, Negros Oriental; Balugo-Banwagi bridge in Guihulngan; Ilaya bridge in Ronda, Cebu; Burgos bridge in Mandaue City; Adlaon-Guba bridge, Budlaan bridge and Pulang-bato bridge all in Cebu City; and Mabini bridge in Bohol. These will be funded from the ODA and the respective local government units.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-7) in Central Visayas on the other hand proposed to establish fire stations and acquisition of firetrucks, equipment and other facilities for Pinamungahan and Sibonga in Cebu; Inabanga in Bohol; and Sibulan in Negros Oriental.

It also wants to rehabilitate dilapidated fire stations in Daan-Bantayan, Cebu; Tagbilaran City (FS Annex); repair and improvement of Ubay, Jagna and Bais City fire stations and the rehabilitation of all unserviceable fire trucks and vehicles.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP-7) has also prioritized the construction of its regional office; additional jail building, female dormitory and infirmary in various LGUs in the region.

Procurement of short firearms, radio communication system, a mini bus for the PDEA-7 jail facility, prisoners' van, handcuffs and other facilities and equipment have also been proposed to upgrade its operations and management of jail facilities in the region.

Poca said, those were just some of the notable priority projects that the DevAd committee endorses for RDC's approval for its inclusion in the RDIP and for implementation in CY 2009.

In similar development, the Social Development committee (SDC) has also approved its work program for the year. It includes the monitoring of the implementation and accomplishments of the programs, projects and activities related to human development.

Specifically, it includes programs on education for all; accelerated hunger mitigation, social sector regional development and investment; and the activities of the SDC affiliate committees.

According to the SDC, its work program also contains the review of project, policy, budget and investment program proposals of the social sector agencies. (PIA-Cebu) [top]
