Four Davao Region LGUs celebrate founding anniversaries
TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte (5 March) -- Four local government units in Davao Region will be celebrating their founding anniversaries this week.
In Davao del Norte, the Tagum City, the Island Garden City of Samal and the municipality of Braulio E. Dujali will turn 10 on March 7 which marked the day when their respective residents ratified the law proclaiming their creation.
Compostela Valley Province will also turn 10 on March 8.
By virtue of Republic Act 8470, Compostela Valley Province was created from its mother province of Davao del Norte.
Made into law on January 30, 1998, Republic Acts 8471, 8472, 8473 created the Island Garden City of Samal, Tagum City and the municipality of Dujali, respectively.
Governor Rodolfo P. del Rosario, who was a congressman at that time, played an instrumental role in elevating the former Tagum municipality into a city; in uniting the three districts of Babak, Penaplata and Samal into a city; and in carving Braulio E. Dujali from Panabo and Carmen.
To mark their anniversary celebration, they will be staging a week-long series of activities.
After the Musikahan Festival, Tagum City is holding a week-long "Salamat Tagum…. Isang Dekadang Tagumpay" from March 1 to March 9, featuring a variety of activities ranging from musical concerts, sports, familiarization tour, photo exhibits, trade fairs, mall sales, and civic and military parade.
Compostela Valley opened yesterday its Bulawan Festival highlighting its bid to become a jewelry capital of Davao Region if not the entire Mindanao.
The Island Garden City of Samal is also into a week-long celebration from March 1 to March 7 while the Municipality of Braulio E. Dujali will only be holding a three-day Araw ng Braulio Dujali from March 6 to March 8, 2007. (PIA/JMDA) [top]
