NVizcaya forms indigenous people's cooperative
Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (14 July) -- The province recently formalized the creation of an indigenous people's cooperative designed to cater for the development and promotion of cultural communities in Nueva Vizcaya.
Froilan Calata, vice chairman and board of directors of the Nueva Vizcaya Indigenous People's Cooperative (NVIPC) said the NVIPC was formally organized in June 21 with the guidance and support of provincial officials and allied government agencies.
"We have already elected our officers and created several working committees to operationalize our organization. We hope that it will live up to its objectives," Calata said.
Calata said the highlight of the general assembly was the crafting and presentation of the cooperative's development agenda which covers economic - focusing on credit assistance, livelihood, capital build up and educational and health assistance; Cultural - which advocates the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, indigenous knowledge and practices and systems and environment - which promotes the preservation of flora, fauna and waste management.
He added that the organization of the association of professional indigenous people will also be done to encourage them to help the other tribal communities in Nueva Vizcaya. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
