Travel group to organize tourism students, mentors
Davao City (18 July) -- Student leaders of tourism courses are being eyed to form a local association of tourism students here in Davao City.
Wanda T. Teo, chair of the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies (NAITAS), Davao Chapter said the move is being made to organize not only students but also teachers from schools offering tourism and tourism-related courses.
Teo said, a meeting is being scheduled today (July 19) at the Marco Polo Hotel.
The meeting will be presided no less than NAITAS national president Robert "Bobby" Joseph who is excited to see a new group in the tourism industry here, she added.
The organization she said will open opportunities of learning to students and teachers in the tourism industry not only in Davao City but in Southern Mindanao, as well, she said.
According to Dr. Susan Labutap of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Xl, there are 20 schools in Davao City and Davao del Norte offering Bachelor of Science in Hotel & Restaurant Management (BSHRM), Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) and Bachelor of Science in Tourism and Travel Management (BSTTM).
Labutap said there are also pending applications for these courses from other schools which will be offered next school year. (PIA/BCGomez) [top]
