Access features for PWDs in new buildings noted

Davao City (18 July) -- The government has noted the implementation of accessibility for persons with disabilities in new building constructions in Davao City.
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD XI) Regional Director Ester Versoza said they noted that new buildings here have provided easy access to PWDs an indication that there is ample awareness of the law.
However she said that they still have to aggressively pursue it considering that there still areas that need to be acted.
"There is still need to strengthen the implementation although there are lots of improvements," she said.
Versoza opened the Kakayahan Fair on Thursday at SM City Davao with Davao City Vice-Mayor Sara Duterte as guest.
Duterte for her part committed the full implementation of projects in the city for PWDs as she said that they will prioritize services for those persons with disability.
Figures from DSWD showed that Davao City had the most number of persons with disabilities of 12,776 followed by Davao del Sur with 10,495, Davao del Norte, 7,746, Davao Oriental, 4,004, Compostela Valley, 6,494 or a total of 41,515 in the Davao Region. (PIA) [top]
