Promotion of peaceful resolution of conflicts urged

Davao City (29 July) -- Some 42 global partners committed to reject hatred and violence in all world religions, and instead promote peaceful resolution of conflicts.

The commitment of 42 global partners was made during the recently-concluded 4th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) held in Amsterdam, according to Ulama League of the Philippine regional chairman Aleem Mahmod Mala Adilao, one of the representatives of said worldwide meeting.

Commitments were focused on the respect of freedom of religion and belief and take necessary actions to combat tolerance, discrimination, and violence based on religion and ultimately promote peaceful resolution of conflicts, Adilao said.

Chairman Adilao said that as a Philippine representative, we also shared our Filipino ethical values and we called on the promotion of mutual understanding and respect of each others religion through interaction among our countries.

On poverty alleviation, ASEM global partners agreed to work together for the reduction of poverty, narrow economic gaps and contribute in achieving the United Nation Millennium Development Goals by drawing on social capital in terms of people's trust, religion and humanitarian motivation.

The Asia-Europe Meeting was an informal process of dialogue and cooperation which brings together 27 European Union member states and European Commission, 16 Asian countries and the ASEAN Secretariat.

The dialogue, held recently in Amsterdam aims to address political, economic and cultural issues for purposes of strengthening the relationship between the regions in a spirit of mutual respect and equal partnership.

The 4th ASEM Interfaith Dialogue was hosted by the Kingdon of Netherlands, co-hosted by Kingdom of Thailand and co-sponsored by the Republic of Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, European Commission, Finland, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Philippines, Slovenia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom of Grate Britain and Northern Ireland.
