Bizmen hope for business-friendly GRP-MILF MOA

Davao City (21 August) -- The business sector has declared that the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MOA-AD) entered into by the GRP and the MILF should identify measures that will promote and safeguard existing and future investments in the island.

This was contained in the Mindanao Peace Declaration presented during the GRP-LGU-Business Sector Dialogue for Peace and Development in Mindanao on August 18, 2008 at the Marco Polo Hotel Davao.

The same declaration defined that part of role of the business sector is to strengthen private sector initiative and participation in the peace process in order to identify opportunities for livelihood enterprises and other poverty reduction interventions that can be carried out in cooperation with local government units and civil society organizations.

Programs that will promote marketing and business networking among all productive players in Mindanao must also be explored.

The dialogue was initiated by the Mindanao Business Council, an umbrella organization of 42 chambers of commerce and 12 industry associations that operating in the island.

As envisioned by MinBC it seeks to harmonize the aspirations and expressions of solidarity of Mindanao business to ensure sustainable and responsible investments.

In the peace declaration it also stated that the present conflict in Mindanao call for open dialogue, conflict resolution, and negotiations that will provide a lasting solution for sustainable peace.

The Mindanao business community wants to make informed decisions and the dialogue is one venue to gather information, analyze and talk through the issues, and clarify intentions and outcomes that they hope to arrive at doable actions to mitigate the tensions and allow peace to prosper. (PIA) [top]
