112 teams in join Davao's biggest football tourney

Davao City (29 August) -- A TOTAL of 112 teams have been registered and are expected to see action in what could be the biggest football tournament ever organized in Davao City, tournament director Cresencio Manuel Arrieta told the Philippine Information Agency Thursday.
Dubbed as the Filipino-Spanish Friendship Football Festival, the tournament is Davao Football Association's contribution to the Kadayawan Festival to be conducted Saturday and Sunday, August 30 and 31, 2008 at the Tionko Football Field, Quimpo Boulevard, this city.
Arrieta said the conduct of the games are made possible in partnership with the Philippine Football Federation and the Spanish consulate in Manila.
The Davao FA (Football Association) has also listed some 1,200 players mostly in eight categories of 8 to 17 year-old boys and girls players during the Saturday games.
Sunday's pairings will be among players in the Ladies Open and Men's Open, first and second divisions, the tournament director said.
Teams from the host city include Ateneo de Davao University, Holy Child, Abbas' Orchard, Emar Learning Center, Monserrat, Southpoint, SOS, Catalunan Grande Elementary School, F. Bangoy Elementary School, Kapitan Tomas Elementary School, Zonta Muslim Elementary School, UIC, Brokenshire, and Davao City National High School.
Teams outside of Davao City will come from Tagum City, Digos City, Malita-Dvo del Sur, Comval, Iligan City, Bukidnon, and Cotabato City. (PIA XI) [top]
