19th Nutrition Congress to highlight healthy pregnancy, healthy baby drive
Iloilo City (12 October) -- The 19th Nutrition Congress set on October 15 will highlight the theme "Sa Wastong Nutrisyon ni Mommy, Siguradong Healthy si Baby" which focuses on the importance of good nutrition before, furing and after pregnancy for healthy mother and child.
Nutrition Regional Coordinator Nona tad-y said the congress will provide updates and technical presentations and also recognize and award outstanding local government units and best performing Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) in the region.
The resource persons who will talk before an expected audience of about 800 nutrition program implementers include Western Visayas Presidential Assistant Raul Banias on the role of his office in nutrition and food sufficiency thrusts; NNC Executive Director ASEC Bernardita Flores on the role of the NNC in achieving the Millennium Development Goals targeted in the Philippine Plan for Nutrition.
The programs and projects of the Philippine Carabao Center will also be presented to boost good nutrition and healthy, uncontaminated milk for babies, children and adults.
Celeste Tanchoco of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) will discuss the Healthy Pregnancy, Healthy Baby theme.
The Green Banner Awardees for 2008 are for the Outstanding Municipality in the province and the region, Outstanding City in the region, Outstanding Province in the region, and the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars.
The congress will also feature a "Buntis Showdown" where champions will be chosen during a presentation of healthy pregnant mothers.
The whole day affair will be held at the Iloilo Grand Hotel in Iloilo City. (PIA 6ES Subong) [top]
