ICC Cotabato City (7 November) -- "We cannot just arrest suspected criminals in the city without proper and official order from the court", bared PSSupt. Willie M. Dangane, City PNP Director in last week's press conference sponsored by the Philippine Information Agency.

The statement made by Dangane was in reaction to the query of a reporter who said why criminals, particularly those murderers who victimized people in broad daylight before the eyes of potential witness during the commission of the crime cannot be apprehended immediately.

"Much more," Dangane added," in the event these hard core criminals are collared and brought behind bars, they cannot be properly tried in the court due to the unavailability of credible witness, which in turn resulted to their release upon the intercession of their lawyers.

"Kaya siguro sa nakikita kong ganitong sistema ng ating hustisya, hindi ko masisi ang taong bayan na mawalan ng tiwala sa pulisya, "an apparently angry Dangane.

"Kung maganda ang cycle ng criminal justice system natin and all the pillars of prosecution are really working hard, I don't think the series of killings in the city will continue, " Dangane pointed out.

When PIA 12 Regional Director Olivia T. Sudaria, who moderated said press conference asked City Vice Mayor Japal J. Guiani, Jr. who was still the acting Mayor during that day, if the city government extends assistance to the evacuees presently seeking shelter in some evacuation centers in the city, Guiani said," as far as evacuees who are affected by the flashfloods that hit the city is concerned, yes we extend them food and other forms of assistance, although not that big."
