Manila (7 November) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo expressed optimism that life for the Filipino and the country would be a lot better as she vowed to continue to bring government services to the people.

In her keynote speech at the closing ceremonies marking the Local Peace and Security Assembly (LPSA) for Region III at the Legenda Hotel here, President Arroyo also called on the people to reflect and recount the numerous blessings received as individuals and as a people.

"As we move into the holiday season, we should all count our blessings and look to the future with greater hope, confidence and optimism," the President said in what could be her pre-Christmas message to the nation.

"I, for one, am optimistic about our future and in the hope, optimism and resilience of the Filipino people," she added.

Filipinos are highly regarded around the world as one of the best work forces owing to their firm grasp of the English language and strong work ethic, making them highly sought after as employees.

The President said that with the 50 days or so remaining before Christmas Day, "our people must come together this holiday season to celebrate faith and families."

"Our communities must pull together and set aside personal feuds and political differences. We must focus instead on what positive things we can do all together to improve the lives of the people," the President added.

She vowed to "make sure our government is vigilant in bringing government services to the people."

"It is important that your government work for you, that your government deliver the services you deserve," the President said.
