10-ID continues search for missing officer

By Mai Gevera

Davao City (14 November) -- Commanding General Jogy Leo Fojas of the 10th Infantry Division said that his troops is pursuing its combat operation to search for 1LT Vicente Cammayo.

Cammayo was reported missing after an encounter with the New People's Army in sitio Anagase, Barangay Casoon, Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province last November 7.

In yesterday's AFP-PNP Press Conference, Fojas clarified that the missing officer who was wounded during the fight commanded for an organized disengagement of his troops.

Surviving soldiers narrated that Cammayo's wounds unable him to move swiftly thus caused his capture by the NPA bandits.

A witness also reported that the officer was suffering from gunshot wounds and was taken alive by the rebel group.

Others said that he was blindfolded, handcuffed and his feet are chained while moving.

Earlier, the NPA released a statement claiming that Cammayo was not in their custody.

"The alleged denial of the NPA has deprived Cammayo appropriate medical treatment which is a clear violation of a basic right of every citizen as stipulated in the constitution," Fojas said.

Fojas challenged cause-oriented groups to condemn this act of the NPA and put pressure on them to treat Cammayo humanely and release him for medical treatment. (PIA) [top]
