Davao Norte joins 1st Mindanao Children's Games

By Mera Grace E. Apuya/PGO-ID

Davao del Norte (14 November) -- Developing potential athletes, the Provincial Government takes participants to compete in the 1st Mindanao Children's Games at UM Matina Campus, Davao City today, November 14.

After a month of holding series of sports clinics, the Provincial Sports Development Program called AGR KIDS (Agenda for Games and Recreation: Kabataan Ilayo sa Drugs) handled by Provincial Sports Coordinator Anthony del Rosario was able to produce 65 participants ages 12 under.

After identifying the top ten priority sports of the province (1st phase), the AGR KIDS is now on its 3rd phase and that is, bringing the products of sports clinics (2nd phase) to sporting activities where the children experience the real tournament and practice sportsmanship with different kids in a new environment.

In a written document released by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the objective of the 1st Mindanao Children's Games which will culminate on November 16 is "to gather children into one activity that knows no barrier or cultural and religious boundaries."

With the PSC, Sports for Peace Mindanao, Inc., Department of Education, Davao Association of Colleges and Schools (DACS), and Archdiocesan Center for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue conceived the said 3-day activity. (PGO-ID/PIA XI) [top]
