DOLE to deliver basic services to Capiceņos

by A. Lumaque

Roxas City (18 November) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office - 6 is set to deliver its basic services to Capiceņos in a service caravan at Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center (DRCC) here yesterday.

The same activity is also scheduled at Barangay Duyoc in Dao town on Nov. 20.

The activation of the caravans in the regions nationwide aims to deliver basic services closer to the public including workers in the informal and rural sectors, and the families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

DOLE Secretary Marianito D. Roque said in a website news that the service caravan would run within November until December, consistent with the forthcoming celebration of the DOLE's historic 75th anniversary on December 8, 2008.

He said the event with the theme "A Celebration of Commitment to Service" would mark the foundation of the DOLE, celebrating three-quarters of a century of productive local and global contributions to the nation, since it first rose to the status of a full-fledged department in 1933.

Roque added that the caravans, under the supervision of the DOLE's Regional Offices (ROs) nationwide, would include jobs fairs and "Diskwento" fairs, tiangge, information on legitimate overseas opportunities, livelihood assistance and other services, as well as assistance to OFW families on OFW reintegration services and programs such as financial literacy training, entrepreneurship/livelihood, values orientation, business counseling, skills counseling, career guidance, and so on.

The Labor Chief also added that vitally, the Serbisyo Caravan job fairs, apart from facilitating available local opportunities, would provide information on POEA-approved opportunities from legitimate companies overseas, in order to protect applicants from being victimized and endangered by illegal recruiters.

Earlier, a DOLE Administrative Order was issued directing all DOLE Regional Offices (ROs) in the country's 16 regions to organize their respective Serbisyo Caravans towards a relevant and service-oriented DOLE 75th anniversary. (DOLE/PIA) [top]
