Lady senator vows to sponsor a bill on womenomics

Tacloban City (November 24) -- Senator Jamby Madrigal pledged to work closely with the National Council of Women of the Philippines preparatory to her passing a bill in support of "womenomics" as a tool and a strategy for women empowerment.

Senator Madrigal made the commitment as a speaker in the recently held ASEAN Regional Conference on Womenomics and 13th ASEAN Confederation of Women Organizations General Assembly at the historic Manila Hotel.

Senator Jamby is committed to pass a legislation to promote women's worth as economic contributor, in addition to their multiple role as household managers, budget officers, child bearer and caretakers.

Admitting that she has to learn more about womenomics and the needs of the women especially the disadvantaged, Senator Jamby said that she will be in constant dialogue with the women leaders.

Poverty alleviation, the lady Senator said, is not only a local concern but a global concern. She commended the ASEAN Confederation of Women Organizations for coming up with a strategy that will cater to the needs of the women in all the ten member countries of the ASEAN.

The Philippines thru the National Council of Women of the Philippines hosted the ASEAN Regional Conference on Womenomics and the 13th ASEAN Confederation of Women Organizations (ACWO) General Assembly on November 20-23 at the Manila Hotel.

Centering on the theme " ASEAN Womenomics: Empowering Women and Expanding their Participation in the Globalized Economy," the Conference brought together more than 350 women government officials, women leaders, managers, policy makers, development workers, educators, entrepreneurs and students from the ten ASEAN member nations and dialogue partners from Canada and Australia.
