Davao City (25 November) -- As of third quarter of this year, the Employees' Compensation Commission (ECC) has already disposed 88 percent of EC claims nationwide.
ECC executive director Dr. Benjamin Vitasa told the media in yesterday's ECC's Convergent Project with DOLE regional offices that the said commission is immediately responding to the EC claims denied by both Social Security System (SSS) and Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) as appealed by the claimants.
Vitasa said that the ECC is tasked to provide meaningful and appropriate compensation to workers in the event of work-related contingencies.
All workers in the formal sector enjoying employer-employee relationship are covered by the said program. In the government sector, the employer pays P30 for every worker per month and the rate was then raised to P100 per month.
In the private sector, the employer pays from a minimum of P30 to P50 per worker per month.
ECC released a list of occupational diseases given that proof must be shown that the sickness was caused by the nature of the employee's work or by his working conditions.
However, the injury is not compensable when it is sustained due to intoxication, notorious negligence or due to a deliberate act with the intention of injuring or killing himself or another injury or death arising from it.
Regional human resource personnel from the government and private offices were briefed on the law and procedure in the disposition of EC cases, updates on latest Supreme Court Decisions on Appealed EC cases.
The region-wide activity was aimed for human resource personnel to actively work out EC cases to be disposed by the proper office. (PIA) [top]
