PIA Press Release

13th National Press Congress slated in Baguio Dec. 11-13

Quezon City (26 November) -- The 13th National Press Congress, organized by the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) is slated to be held on Dec. 11-13 in Baguio City.

Known as the country's biggest media event, the annual press congress is organized by PAPI in cooperation with agencies, organizations and institutions concerned with the promotion of press freedom and national welfare.

In accordance with Proclamation 1187 issued by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, PAPI is mandated to celebrate every "December as National Press Congress Month" and the "Month of the Community Press in the Service of the Nation."

The theme of the press congress this year is: "'Media and Global Crisis."

The 13th annual media event will be attended by hundreds of media practitioners, publishers, broadcast media executives, editors, reporters, commentators, columnists, photojournalists, news correspondents, information officers, corporate affairs directors, writers, authors, school campus writers, mass communication and journalism students, advisers, press freedom advocates, economic and financial writers and analysts, global warming scientists, observers, environmentalists and other mass media communicators.

In addition to the main conference, PAPI is holding an executive session exclusively to train future journalists and communicators dubbed as "Students Press Congress 2008," on Dec. 11, 2008 also in Baguio City to usher in the national press congress.

The 3-day strategic convergence -- of media practitioners, communicators and advocates of various discipline who are promoting national interest -- is conceived to be media's response to the threatening issues of global magnitude such as financial and economic crisis and the collapsing environmental balance.

For further information, please call PAPI secretariat at Unit 206, Cityland Condominium VIII, No. 98, Sen. Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City, tel. 8929278, Fax: 8944687; CP 09209094379; Email (PIA) [top]
