Stress management sessions for workers held in Davao

Davao City (7 February) -- The onslaught of the worldwide economic crisis has also affected not just big businessmen but also the ordinary workers' nerves.

The Department of Labor and Employment through the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) is holding one-day counseling sessions for workers and employees stressed out by the economic crisis.

Director Dulce Gust of the (OSHC) said that the stress management sessions are not the usual SM sessions offered to companies but designed specifically for workers affected by unemployment, underemployment and the pressures due to an increasing cost of living.

Guesting at the Philippine Information Agency's Kapihan sa PIA media forum at the PIA-XI office in Quimpo Boulevard, this city last Friday (February 6) Gust said that the economic crisis has not just affected big businessmen but also ordinary workforce.

It is a one-day session which basically recognizes stress (symptoms, signs) its risks and immediate factors and stress management. The session focuses on their situations most of which have lost or about to lose their jobs.

Stress management is integrated holistically into the other programs of DOLE like livelihood and entrepreneurship training programs.

Gust said that three stress management courses have already been conducted mostly in Manila and in Subic, she said that there is a plan to conduct a course in Davao. Gust said that many of the participants were very appreciative of the sessions in helping allay their stresses and fears.

She also bared of a similar initiative in Region XI undertaken by the regional DOLE office under Regional Director Jalilo dela Torre in which a group of guidance counselors are teaching DOLE personnel on psychosocial counseling to help similarly stressed workers in the region. (PIA XI) [top]
