PGADC Zambo Sur eyes women and children issues
Padadian City (February 9) -- During the recent meeting of the 18-member-Provincial Gender and Development Council (PGADC) a converge was agreed upon in advocating support on: 1) Children in Need of Special Protection, 2) Maternal Health Care and 3) Food Production involving women.
This move was in concurrence to the thrust of its chair, Governor Aurora E. Cerilles, who in her message emphasized the need to raise public consciousness about the status of women and their rights to usher them in the right tract of development.
"Hurting and abused women must be helped and saved while the unproductive ones must be ushered to programs and activities to make them useful and productive partners of the community," Gov. Cerilles stated.
She views the basic health and well-being of women as prime elements of the overall thrust for development.
During the meeting Provincial Health Officer Corazon Silla-Ariosa presented the Gender and Development Code of Zamboanga del Sur where it provides policy direction in the implementation of programs and activities of PGADC. .
Guided by the Gender and Development Code of the province, the council aimed at mainstreaming gender concerns in sectoral development plans, policies and programs. The council will strengthen partnership with non-government and people's organizations upon implementation. (ppb-pia9/pagadian) [top]
