Canada, UPMin to bring McLuhan Forum to Davao City
Davao City (11 February) -- The Embassy of Canada and UP Mindanao will hold a special installment of the Marshall McLuhan Forum Series on Responsible Media centering on the topic "Engaging the Media with New Technology" at the UP Mindanao School of Management, Iņigo (Anda) St., Davao City on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM.
The speakers of the Forum are Ellen Tordesillas, Head of Reporters of Malaya newspaper, Yvonne Chua, Professor of the College of Mass Communication, UP Diliman, and former Training Director of the Phil. Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), and Luz Flaviana Rimban, Professor at the Ateneo de Manila University and former Director of the Broadcast Desk of the PCIJ. All three speakers are former winners of the McLuhan Prize.
Attending the Forum are officials from the Embassy of Canada headed by H.E. Robert Desjardins, Ambassador of Canada to the Philippines. Ambassador Desjardins served as Director General of Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade's Consular Affairs Bureau before being appointed as Ambassador to the Philippines, following the retirement of former Ambassador Peter Sutherland.
Launched by the Canadian Embassy in the Philippines in 1997, the McLuhan Prize is awarded annually to a Filipino journalist who has published an outstanding piece of investigative reporting. The prize is a collaborative effort of the Embassy of Canada, the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada and Air Canada. (UPMin-PIA XI) [top]
