Davao City (12 February) -- The 10th Infantry Agila division of the Philippine Army is expected to clear out insurgency by 2010.
This is the challenge posted by Commanding General Victor Ibrado to the new leadership of 10ID particularly to Major General Reynaldo Mapagu who took over from Maj. General Jogy Leo Fojas.
Fojas will assume command of the National Capital Region Command based in Cam Aguinaldo, Quezon City. Mapagu, on the other hand, was a former chief of staff of the Philippine Army.
"This area has been very tough but the previous command really hit the beehive. All we need to do is continue and finish the job," Ibrado said.
Reports showed that the previous leadership has led to 138 encounters and the additional number of troops had reduced the number of atrocities in the area.
The army started reinforcing hard and soft strategies to fast-track peace and development initiatives in the region.
What strengthened the said command is the institutionalizing of an inter-agency collaboration created by the Regional ISO Convergence Office.
Meanwhile, Ibrado bared continuous focus on Mindanao as this has been the area wherein the terrorists have been very active in conducting their activities.
"The terrorists have been getting a lot of money from this area and we expect them to continue doing so because they won't let go of the funds," he said.
The said official admitted that the funds are also used in their terroristic activities done in other areas. (PIA XI) [top]
