Gov. Malanyaon leads inauguration of shelter units in Davao Oriental
Tarragona, Davao Oriental (25 February) -- "Your cooperation and unity largely played a great role in making these housing units possible," Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon of Davao Oriental lauded local officials and the housing recipients at the turnover and inaugural rites of the 100 shelter units in Sitio Trese, Brgy. Tubaon here Wednesday.
The Governor urged the beneficiaries to prove that they deserve the project and encouraged them to be self-sufficient particularly with respect to food production. "Let us be competitive and let us strive to make our community and our province a major producer of main crops such as rice, corn, abaca, rubber and even cassava."
The governor was joined by Representative Nelson L. Dayanghirang of the First District of Davao Oriental, Director Ester Acebedo-Versoza of DSWD, Assistant Director Priscilla Nidea-Razon of DSWD, Tarragona Mayor Samuel L. Uy, Provincial Board Members Nestor L. Uy and Ronald Lara, Provincial and Local officials, and some DSWD Regional Officials.
While Neighborhood Association for Shelter Tubaon Brgy. Captain Romeo Roberto appealed to the recipients: "Magtinabangay kita alang sa uban pang mga proyekto ug aron samot mapalambo ang atong probinsya (Let us work together to pursue more projects for the improvement of our province)."
Assistance (NASA) President Expedito Dampiganon expressed endless and profused gratefulness to the proponents and supporters of the housing project such as the national, provincial, municipal and barangay leaders and even the church-based group. "Kamong tanan welcome gayod diri sa among lugar kanunay (We welcome you all here to our place anytime)."
To date, the national government through the DSWD has facilitated construction of some 1401 housing units throughout Davao Region with a funding exposure of P31,440,723. Fifty-four per cent or 754 of these units were built in Davao Oriental in the towns of Banaybanay, San Isidro, Tarragona, Gov. Generoso and in Mati City.
The DSWD Core Shelter Assistance Program (CSAP) is granted to individuals or families left homeless by disasters. The project is a community development initiative utilizing the principles of community organizing, convergence of services and capability building. (DSWD/degsduron-PIA XI) [top]
