By Cyrielle R. Panisa

Davao City (31 March) -- The Department of Health, in partnership with the Local Government Units, has all set for Garantisadong Pambata 2009 (GP9) nationwide and will kick off the program coming April 13-17, 2009 for the first round and October 12-16, 2009 for the second round.

Garantisadong Pambata '09 will be conducted in all barangay health centers, government-owned hospitals, and municipal health offices.

On a press conference held at SM City Davao, this day (March 30), Maternal and Child Health Coordinator Dr. Cemellie Bernadette V. Sabay said that the objectives of the Garantisadong Pambata '09 are: to give essential services to under six children and to reduce child mortality rate by two thirds by end of 2015, and to institutionalize the 9 child survival interventions in all local government.

Garantisadong Pambata 09's theme for this year is "Garantisadong Pambata Nine Ways to Save your Child." And its target participants would be, of course, mothers and child-care takers, and children under six, Garantisadong Pambata Coordinator Ms. Perpetua R. Labadia added.

Garantisadong Pambata '09 offers nine major interventions which will cover a package of health services. For children, there will be a free immunization, Vitamin A capsule supplementation, and deworming. For mothers and child-care takers, there will also be an immunization and micronutrient supplementation.

Garantisadong Pambata '09 will also deliver relevant health information like proper breastfeeding and complementary feeding, care of the newborn, integrated management of sick children, child injury prevention and control, skilled attendance during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum, birth spacing, and proper personal hygiene.
