Lapus kicks off SY 2009-2010

Pasig City (1 June) -- Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Jesli Lapus kicked off School Year 2009-2010 with a visit to Rizal High School in Pasig City and Highway Hills Elementary School in Mandaluyong City to monitor the situation in public schools during the first day of School Year 2009-2010.

"We are optimistic that our initiatives - including our preparations for school opening - will benefit our public schools not only on school opening, but all year 'round," said Lapus.

An estimated 22 million elementary and high school students trooped back to public schools today for the opening of classes.

"Our parents should realize the value of their children's education - edukasyon ang solusyon. It is their responsibility to send their children to school, and the government has been undertaking all efforts to ease the financial burdens of parents," Lapus added.

He continues to encourage parents to forward their queries and complaints to DepEd through the Balik Eskwela Command Center Hotlines 6361663, 6331942, 6340222, 6359817, 6363602, 6364880, 6366550, 6387529, 6387530, 6387531 and 7065332. This center at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City is open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm to handle walk-in queries and complaints.

The public may also contact DepEd through SMS by sending their name, address and query to 09194560027 or by texting DEPED FDBK name, address and query and sending it to 2622.

"Resolving all complaints requires the cooperation of parents. Education is a team effort, and we urge them to inform us of their complaints so we can act on them promptly," Lapus noted. (DepEd) [top]
