DPWH actively participates in Kalayaan Jobs Fair

Davao City (11 June) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will actively participate on a nationwide 3-day Kalayaan Job Fair activities starting June 12-14, in commemoration of the 111th Anniversary of Philippine Independence June 12th.

In his message during a hooked-up radio program over Radyo ng Bayan, DPWH XI Director Osop L. Ali gave emphasis that "Her Excellency, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo wants to attain higher growth and rate targets by creating as many jobs as possible especially for the displaced workers, and protect the most vulnerable sectors and build bridges to allies around the world."

In support of the Economic Resiliency Plan, a stimulus package introduced by the President, DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane, Jr., has directed all DPWH regional executive heads across the nation to actively get involved in this momentous occasion.

To address this global challenges and economic recession, Director Ali reported that the DPWH in region eleven has generated job employment opportunities to some 4,516 workers under the DPWH Job Generation and Employment for Displaced Workers.

"We have launched the DPWH Jobs Generation since February 23, 2009 of which the contractors in Davao region play important role on this event," he said.

The launching was coordinated with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the National Constructors Association of the Philippines, Davao chapter.

Director Ali bared that "there were 3,527 workers hired as of June 4, 2009 and we are still continuously generating employment opportunities to realize the goal of the Arroyo Administration."

He further reported that from calendar year 2006 to 2009, the DPWH Davao region has a total of 2,920 projects.

Under the locally-funded projects, there are 139 ongoing while 35 projects are for implementation, he added.

Our DPWH staff and personnel are now at the NCCC mall for the jobs fair and ready to assist those applicants who wish to apply for job vacancies, he said. (PIA XI/with rbpalacio) [top]
