Troops capture NPA, overrun camp, recover firearms

Camp Panacan, Davao City (11 June) -- Operating troops of Special Forces Team 701, 7th Special Forces Company under the 1003rd Infantry Brigade overran an NPA encampment, captured one New People's Army member and recovered high-powered firearms at Barangay Kapatagan, Laak, ComVal Province.

The successful operation was a result of the tip-off information from the residents who pin-pointed a regular NPA member last June 6, 2009 at 1 pm later on found to be under the Sub-Section Committee 33 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.

Confiscated in the possession of said NPA member are three back packs containing personal things, important documents believed to records of extortion activities of the NPAs and other propaganda materials. He later on revealed the location of their encampment.

After thorough planning on the said information, the troops successfully overrun the said encampment located at Sitio Cabuley, Barangay Kapatagan last June 8, 2009, 2:00am.

Continues search by the troops in the said Sitio has led to the encounter with 10 NPAs, at about 2:48pm, who were hiding in the bushes.

There was no reported casualty on the troops while some NPAs were believed to be wounded based on the reports from the civilians and as evidenced on the two firearms (Garand Rifles) left by the NPAs with blood stains.

"We will continually pursue the NPAs without let-up. The timely information we receive from the civilians is an indication that these people are fed up with the atrocities committed by the NPAs who are nothing but band of criminals," said Colonel Joel Ibanez, Commander of 1003rd Brigade.
