PGMA appoints Ermita Lakas-Kampi-CMD interim prexy
Manila (12 June) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has appointed Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita as the interim party president of the newly merged Lakas-Kampi-CMD.
Secretary Ermita's appointment was announced yesterday by Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte, the national executive committee senior vice president for external affairs.
The President is the national chairperson of Lakas-Kampi-CMD.
"I am thankful for the President for the confidence vested upon my humble person to be appointed interim president of the merged party," Ermita said.
Ermita said he will strive to match the President's trust with a clear vision and tenacity of purpose to further strengthen the Party – a merger of two of the biggest and strongest political parties this generation has seen.
As interim president, Ermita said they would undertake series of activities in order to strengthen the new merged party.
Ermita said these include the registration of the Party; creation of key Party committees and appointment of chairpersons of these committees; and proper consolidation of the newly-appointed national officials of the Party.
Ermita said they will also strengthen linkage with their international organization, the Christian Democrat International; and formalize the activation of the evaluation, selection and nomination committee for the national candidates from President down to the senators.
Another important thing, Ermita said, is the preparations for the conduct of a national convention as the democratic way of determining their official candidates and to show support to the selected candidates from top to bottom.
"We are now on election mode and as a majority party our objective is victory in 2010," Ermita said. (PIA) [top]
