PIA Press Release

Nat'l agencies to open vacancies in Kalayaan jobs fair at Davao NCCC mall

By Jean Duron-Abangan

Davao City (12 June) -- Aside from private establishments and recruitment agencies, national government offices will also be joining the Region XI Kalayaan Jobs Fair which runs from June 12 to June 14 at the NCCC Mall, Davao City.

Spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE XI), the jobs fair will be opening up 10,000 job vacancies on top of the employment opportunities being offered by national line agencies of the government.

Paul Cruz DOLE XI senior employment specialist and head of Technical Resource Unit which is principally involved in DOLE job fairs, yesterday said eight regional offices of national line agencies (as of press time) had confirmed to take part of the Kalayaan Jobs Fair.

On the list were the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XI which is looking for survey enumerators; Department of Health (DOH) XI which will be hiring pharmacist and electricians; Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) XI, for community forest extension workers or Bantay Gubat; and the Department of Education (DepEd), for workers related to classroom construction.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Mindanao Office is also looking for security agents; Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) or PAG-IBIG for contractual office workers; the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), for drug enforcement officers; and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for administrative aides.

Other than the listed, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) XI bared during the Ugnayang Bayan conducted on June 03, to hire some 2,000 workers under its economic pump-priming projects.

Guesting at the Ugnayang Bayan, DOLE XI Regional Director Jalilo dela Torre said 10 overseas recruitment agencies will be opening up 8,000 job placement opportunities during the Kalayaan Jobs Fair while 10 local companies will be opening up 2,000 local job vacancies.

Bearing the theme, "Kagitingan, Kagalingan at Kasipagan: Tungo sa Tunay na Kalayaan", the Kalayaan Jobs Fair is a nationwide activity conducted as part of this years 111th Philippine Independence Day commemoration.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will lead the nationwide observance of the 111th Philippine Independence Day at the Rizal Shrine in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.

Aside from the traditional flag-raising rites, the Freedom Day events include the formal launch of a Mega Jobs and Livelihood Fair by switching on the electronic billboard showing the jobs available here and abroad.

The jobs and livelihood fair will be simultaneously replicated in various provincial and regional centers nationwide.

The President earlier said this year's Independence Day observance will be stripped of its usual pomp and pageantry and focus government and public attention on jobs and jobs generation.

This year's June 12 freedom day celebration will provide the background for the Arroyo administration's formal launch of its nationwide Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).

CLEEP is designed to protect and assist the country's most vulnerable sectors -- the poor, overseas Filipino workers and expatriates retrenched from their foreign jobs, workers in the export industry and out-of-school youths -- from the consequences and threats of reduced or lost income resulting from the global economic crisis.
