DAR celebrates 21st CARP anniversary
Davao City (12 June) -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) here will celebrate its 21st anniversary of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) carrying the theme, "Enhancing the Agrarian Reform Communities: Creating Jobs, Empowering farmers and ensuring food security."
Regional Director Datu Yusoph Mama said that celebrating CARP this year will be made in its simplest but most meaningful in line with the austerity measure of the government.
Mama said that this is also a gesture of thanks to the Senators, Congressmen, Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Non-government Organizations (NGOs) and Peoples Organizations (NGOs) and the tri-media who supported for the extension of CARP.
He said that CARP was approved by both houses of congress for five years with funding provision and restored the compulsory land acquisition which is the heart and soul of agrarian reform.
This year's celebration will highlights the significant achievements of the DAR, its partner agencies and stakeholders in assisting agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) to respond to economic challenges for better quality of life, said Mama.
He said that this will showcase various activities undertaken by the department in Region XI in terms of land distribution, support services and agrarian justice.
Mama said that the celebration will consist of a thanksgiving mass, followed by the unveiling of the photo exhibits and press conference (Kapihan sa DAR) which will be held at DAR Central Office Compound, Km. 12, Catalunan Pequeño this City on Friday June 19, 2009. these activities will start at 8:30 in the morning.
There will also be a motorcade, sports festival and cultural affair followed by the awarding and recognition ceremonies, said Mama. (DAR-XI, PIA XI) [top]
