611 Iloilo jobseekers hired on the spot

Iloilo City (15 June) -- 611 joobseekers who participated in the on-going Kalayaan Job and Livelihood Fair at the Amigo Plaza Mall were hired on the spot (HOTS) as of 5 pm of June 13, 2009.

Based on the preliminary report of the Department of Labor and Employment 6 (DOLE 6) who spearheads the event, of the 611 successful jobseekers, 561 were hired by the various government agencies that participated in the job fair on June 12 for short term employment in line with the implementation of their Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).

CLEEP is the government's response to cushion the impact of the prevailing global economic slowdown to vulnerable sectors especially the unemployed and disadvantaged workers.

Of the participating government agencies, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources 6 recorded the highest number of hired applicants with 262, followed by the DOLE through its Nurse Assigned in the Rural Service program with 135 and Department of Public Works and Highways with 104.

Other government agencies that employed workers during the job fair are Department of Agriculture, National Irrigation Administration, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Department of Health amongst others.

On the other hand the other 50 successful jobseekers were hired by the local companies that participated during the second day of the job fair.

These local employers are Waffle Time, Coffebreak, Coca-Cola Bottlers, Inc., Lemacel Trading Corp.,Medicus Philippine Inc., International Builders Corporation, Philippine Call Center Inc., and Mary Kay.

Aside from the 611 applicants who were hired, some 5,824 jobsseekers were also referred for employment in various participating agencies from June 12 to 13. (PIA) [top]
