42nd Araw ng Davao Norte fetes shared responsibility

By Noel Baguio

Davao City (17 June) -- This year's 42nd founding anniversary of Davao del Norte come July 1 centers on the Provincial Government's active support for encouraging opportunity and shared governance in enabling the constituents to thrive through challenges and progress.

The theme of the weeklong celebration, "Akong probinsya, Akong Dakong Responsibilidad," depicts the people's way of acknowledging that they share greater responsibility in advancing the province.

Gov. Rodolfo Del Rosario, together with the officialdom of Davao del Norte, has been doing his hallowed responsibility as governor in taking care of the province and its people, and in providing a clear cut direction for the development of the province, especially through his RDR WHEELS impact agenda.

But, the governor said it is about time the Dabaonons recognize the weight of responsibility that has been placed upon their shoulders, as being jointly accountable for securing a better future, particularly in attaining the vision for Davao del Norte to sooner become a premier province.

"This responsibility belongs to each one of us, for we cannot expect our province to transform without contributing to that change ourselves," he said on several occasions.

Taking on the no-nonsense innovative public service that the Del Rosario administration has been known for, the week-long celebration will start off on June 22, 2009 with a Special People's Day and Health Day at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan at the Capitol in Tagum City.

The People's Day is a breakthrough one-stop-shop public service station established by the governor every Monday at the Bulwagan, where ordinary citizens get to see him and all the heads of the various offices of the provincial government for their concerns and problems.

This will be followed by the opening of the 'Tiangge sa Kapitolyo' 2009 and the 'Lingaw-Lingaw sa Kagabhion' (nightly spotlight featuring song and dance contests, cultural presentations and Battle of the Bands) that will last throughout the festivities.

Other highlights of the week-long festival include, among others: livestock fair, organic farming forum and opening of sports activities on June 23; Sikad sa Kinaiyahan (bike-for-a-cause for the environment), Earth Day celebration, cooperative teamshop, and Binyagan ng Parokya on June 24; Opening of Adventure Group Race, Trade Fair and Kalimudan sa Norte (cultural village & performances) on June 25; Trabaho, Negosyo Expo 2009 on June 26; Motocross and Opening of Banakon Bike Race Challenge and Kasalan ng Bayan on June 27; Sports Development Day on June 28; Special People's Day and Health Day Part 2 on June 29; and, Alay Lakad and Float Parade on June 30.

Capping the week-long celebration in July 1 are the Thanksgiving Mass, anniversary program, Parada Dabaonon (festival of festivals with street dancing), amateur boxing invitational match and a grand concert. (CIO-Tagum) [top]
