Cabinet Secretaries grace LMP Caravan 2009 in Tacloban
Tacloban City (June 18) -- All is set for the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Caravan 2009 dubbed as "Interconnectivity Caravan: Strengthening and Empowering LMP Provincial Chapters" which commences in Tacloban City on June 18, 2009 at Hotel Alejandro in Tacloban City.
Spearheaded by the League of Municipalities of the Philippines and the Mayors' Development Center, as agreed upon and adopted during the National Directorate Meeting on February 26, 2009, Mayor Roque A. Tiu, who is the LMP Leyte Chapter said.
Mayor Tiu said that the national president of LMP, Mayor Ramon Guico together with the ASEC Gerry Calderon who is the chairman of the Mayors' Development Center, and the executive director and staff of LMP have arrived in the afternoon of June 17.
The June 18 LMP Caravan 2009 is expected to be participated in by the municipal mayors of the Provinces of Biliran, Southern Leyte and Leyte together with Secretary Lito Atienza. Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, and PMS Secretary Hermogenes Esperon, Jr.
The LMP Caravan 2009 is aimed at empowering the LMP Provincial Chapters by enhancing their capacities to be a provincial anchorage for mentoring, coordination and feedback mechanisms.
It endeavors to bring to the local government units the existing solutions to the common problems confronting municipalities and to discuss among others the local solutions to the issues on peace and security, food security, climate change and local economic development.
One of the highlights of the Caravan is the "Strengthening of Local Actions through Health FOURmula 1- the Zero Basura Caravan" in cooperation with the Department of Health and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
In the same manner, the Caravan will serve as vehicle for the National Agencies like DOH and DENR to cascade their programs directly to the Local Government Units.
There is no registration fee that will be charged the participants. Overnight accommodations and meals during the activity shall be shouldered by the organizers. The transportation fee to and from their respective areas will be the counterpart of the participants.
Mayor Tiu explained that the caravan will be conducted through visits to clusters of provincial chapters employing plenary sessions, dialogues and survey questionnaires. All the provincial chapters have been geographically divided into 14 clusters.
Upon completion of the caravan, and Island Cluster Conference shall be conducted month after the other, to give feedback to the participants and to validate the data gathered, the contents of which have been analyzed by the LMP Secretariat. (PIA 8) [top]
