DSWD awards capital assistance to 158 families in Calabarzon
Batangas City (22 June) -- In support to the 111th Independence Day Celebration and the effort of the national government to minimize the effect of global economic crisis, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) awarded capital assistance to 158 families in CALABARZON Region.
The DSWD through its Field Office IV-A awarded the capital assistance under the Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K) worth Php790,000 or Php5,000 to each family beneficiary. The said families are members of five SEA-K Associations / Groups and received their capital assistance in separate Independence Day celebration held in Calamba City (Laguna), Kawit (Cavite) and Lucban (Quezon).
According to Sec Favila, this year's celebration not only gives recognition to the struggles and triumph by our heroes like Jose Rizal against colonial rule but also focuses on the efforts being undertaken by the government or need to be undertaken to address global economic crisis.
In Kawit, Cavite, Senator Ramon Revilla Jr, DPWH Sec Hermogenes Ebdane, CLEEP steward for Cavite and DOTC Sec Leandro Mendoza, CORD of Region IV-A led the awarding of the SEA-K capital assistance to the Muslim Tribalfree SEA-K Association of Dasmarinas, Cavite amounting to Php150,000, the Bukluran San Miguel (Dasmarinas, Cavities) - Php150,000 and the Pinagtipunan SEA-K of Gen. Trias, Cavite members - Php150,000. Sec Ebdane and Sec Mendoza was assisted by DSWD IV-A Asst Dir Wilma D. Naviamos, CAvite Governor Erineo Maliksi and Cong Joseph Emilio Abaya. Twenty-three (23) victims Starmakers explosion were also awarded capital assistance of Php5,000 each during the occasion.
In Lucban, Quezon the amount of Php100,000 was awarded to the Yamang Bukid SEA-K Association. Lucban Mayor Moises Villasenor led the awarding of capital assistance assisted by Ms. Chedita Lerum, Project Evaluation officer of DSWD IV-A.
Aside from the awarding of SEA-K capital assistance, livelihood assistance from other national government agencies and conduct of job fairs were held in each of the Independence Day celebration venue mentioned. (PIA) [top]
