Davao Oriental launches rural entrepreneurial advocacy

by RG Alama

Davao City (30 June) -- In an effort to turn rural farmers into successful entrepreneurs the Davao Oriental Provincial Government is launching its rural entrepreneurship program.

Called REACH or Rural Entrepreneurship Advocacy for Change, the program aims to utilize+ Davao Oriental agricultural-based resources into successful business ventures.

Interviewed by media reporters at the Kapihan sa Dabaw at Café Rhysus in SM City Davao last Monday (June 29), Davao Oriental Provincial Governor Corazon Malanyaon said it is her advocacy to make every farmer into a successful entrepreneurs.

The Governor said that REACH program is already being implemented on top of the province's agriculture programs. "For any beneficiary of our agri programs they are made to undergo trainings on entrepreneurship." Malanyaon said.

In this program they are also tapping successful farmers and agri-entrepreneurs to share their knowledge to the others. The province is also intent on sharing best practices on rural businesses to the REACH beneficiaries.

REACH is also planning to infuse support services to beneficiaries, like capital, trainings, subsidy on technical assistance and planting materials. The Governor is also planning to expand the program from being solely agricultural based to a program which will be open to all particularly tourism and other cottage industries.

According to Malanyaon, there are many programs that will help you become a good employee but REACH will try to help you become a successful entrepreneur.

The REACH program is also designed to reach out to those involved in illegal logging operations, as Governor Malanyaon said will provide them a decent alternative livelihood which will wean them away from logging. (PIA XI) [top]
