GSIS seeks forum to clarify issues

by RG Alama

Davao City (3 October) -- The Government Service Insurance System in Davao is seeking venues or forum to air its side on many complaints and issues raised against them.

During the Regional Development Council's Development Administration Committee quarterly meeting held last October 1, GSIS branch manager in Davao, Deity Manampan is urging government agencies or offices to invite them where they would answer numerous queries or clarify a wide range of issues raised against the system.

Last June, the RDC of the Cordillera Administrative Region sent a letter to different RDCs across the country that urge the passage of a similar resolution enacted by the RDC-CAR directed to the GSIS and several top government officials which will seek to address the numerous clamors, resolutions and request for actions directed against the GSIS.

Among the complaints were; delay in posting of payments and contributions of members, delay in payment of retirement benefits, loans, matured insurances to members, non-payment of monthly pensions to retirees, delay in granting clearances to retirees, no refunds on deductions made from benefits received by retirees and matured policies of GSIS members due t o non-posting of members loan repayments, and unsatisfactory service particularly of the G-WAPS machines.

Manampan admitted the problems being encountered but assured that the GSIS is doing its best to solve this problems, he said they are willing to face the members in a separate venue and which is solely dedicated to these issues as they will answer them.

He also clarified that the GSIS never stopped its operations when the Ecard system crashed due to a defective server and said that many services like monthly pension payments and loan processing is still ongoing. He assured that no data was lost during the crash and that a case has already filed in court against the suppliers of the Ecard system.

As for delayed monthly pension payments, he said that the schedule for monthly payments has been made to the end of the month instead of being disbursed at the beginning of the month as the reason Manampan says is to allow pensioners to renew their status, since many GSIS pension checks were collected and used even if the pensioners were already dead.

Manampan said that instead of conducting rallies outside the office, he is urging government agencies and local government units where they could discuss with the GSIS members on generic and specific issues and concerns. (PIA XI) [top]
