October 1-7 is Older Persons' Week
Davao City (3 October) -- "Nakatatanda: Dangal at Yaman ng Bansa, Noon at Ngayon" is the theme for this year's celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week or Linggo ng Nakatatandang Pilipino.
DSWD Focal Person on Older Persons Estrella D. Brigole said the Regional Interagency Committee on Older Persons (RIACOP) and the Regional Interagency Coordinating and Monitoring Board (RIACMB) are spearheading the annual Regional Senior Citizens' Forum set on October 6 at SM Event Centre.
"With over 200 older persons expected to participate, the Forum will provide updates on the implementation of Republic Act 9257 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act as well as a lecture on Healthy Lifestyle for Senior Citizens," Brigole said.
Expected to attend are provincial, city and municipal social welfare and development officers; heads of the local offices of Senior Citizens' Affairs (OSCA); and chapter presidents of the Federation of Senior Citizens Associations from all over the region, Brigole said. Resource persons will come from the offices of DTI, DA, DILG, DOH, DOJ and LTFRB, she said.
"During the forum, we shall be proclaiming the winner of the Regional 2009 Ulirang Nakatatanda who will receive P3000 courtesy of DILG," Brigole added.
National activities for the weeklong event include Walk For Life, Awarding of Sampung Ulirang Nakatatanda, Visit to Older Persons in Prison, Radio and Television Features, and On-The-Spot Poster Making. (DSWD/degsduron) [top]
