by Cpt Emmanuel Garcia

Camp Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City (15 October) -- A total of 22 new peace and development infrastructures were launched by the Army together with Local Government Units (LGU) and line government agencies (LGA) in a ceremony held in New Bataan town in Compostela Valley province 9:00 AM Monday.

The said projects were in line with the Kalayaan sa Barangay Program of the government which the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is the prime-mover in cooperation and coordination with LGUs and LGAs particularly in the countryside. Out of the 22 projects 15 will be initially implemented while the remaining seven will start on December.

In a message to the people of New Bataan, Maj. Gen. Reynaldo Mapagu, commander of the army"s 10th Infantry Division in Davao City expressed his thanks to local officials and the people for the overwhelming support and anticipation for said projects. "You are the true heroes in these endeavors. "The partnership of soldiers, Local Government Units, line government agencies, Barangay officials and the people themselves have been fruitful in making these projects a reality." Mapagu told people in a statement.

Mapagu also said "The government"s peace and development efforts are slowly taking shape as we progress in our campaign to bring necessary services and infrastructures to our people in the countryside. The much needed projects are now in our midst and many more will be coming our way."

The people of New Bataan led by Gov Arturo T Uy and Mayor Lorenzo L Balbin Jr welcomed the launching of peace projects which they said will bring renewed ease to the people.

Gov Uy acknowledged the contributions of the military in bringing peace to the province saying, "Insurgency is the main problem in our province being surrounded by several fronts of the NPA. It is good that the military established the Barangay Defense System and it helped the province a lot in addressing insurgency and criminality.

These projects are proof that the government is serious in working for peace and public officials are doing their best to serve the people in bringing services to the countryside."

The peace and development programs of the government in New Bataan will include a farm to market road, level II water system and one unit schoolbuilding in Brgy Magangit.

A two unit schoolbuilding, water system, one health center and one day-care center will be erected in Brgy Tandawan. In Brgy Fatima, one schoolbuilding, a day care center, water system and barangay electrification project will be underway. Brgy Cabinuangan will be the recipient of rural electrification project, a day care center and water system while a farm to market road will be given to Brgy Andap.
