NVizcaya Church-based coops perform well
Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (October 19) -- Church-based cooperatives in the province are doing well in their delivery of services and general operation according to the Provincial Cooperative Affairs Office(PCAO) here.
Ruperto Manuel, PCAO staff said that out of the 375 registered cooperatives through the Cooperative Development Authority(CDA), only 45 of these have successfully maintained and sustained their services and operation.
"The major problem encountered by most of our cooperatives is financial management along with other aspects of cooperative management," Manuel told PIA.
Since 1972, cooperatives mushroomed in the province inorder to avail loans from the Land Bank of the Philippines but failed to settle their debts due to insufficient training on financial management and social preparation among its members.
Manuel said church-based cooperatives in the province continue to operate due to their good values and supervision by religious officials.
"In fact, they are recipients of foreign funds because of their track record and good management," he added.
Manuel said they are focusing on providing training on all aspects of management among cooperatives in the province inorder to develop their assets and services.
This month, a cooperative forum will be held on October 28 at the Nueva Vizcaya State University(NVSU) as part of the major activities lined – up in the celebration of this year's cooperative month with the theme: One Cooperative Movement, One Vision, One Nation: Bagong Batas, Bagong Sigla Sa Kooperatiba."
Manuel added that the cooperative forum will tackle the following topic such as : the New Cooperative Code of 2008 or RA 9520, taxation privileges and membership qualifications, responsibilities and privileges in the Nueva Vizcaya Electric Cooperative(NUVELCO).
A motorcade will also be participated by all cooperatives in the province to showcase the unified efforts of cooperatives in nation building. (bme/PIA NVizcaya) [top]
