Zambo Norte approves STL
Dipolog City (21 October) -- After conducting two public hearings, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Zamboanga del Norte has finally approved the resolution giving permit to the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to open and operate Small Town Lottery (STL) in the province.
Both the committee on ways and means headed by board member Fernando Cabigon Jr. and committee on laws, ordinances, resolution, rules and style headed by board member Ricky Mejorada gave the Leviathan Corporation the go signal for its operation.
PCSO representative Atty. Joel Descallar pointed out that the operation of STL will ultimately put an end to the operation of illegal numbers game such as "swertres" which does not give anything to the government because all the money is being siphoned by the financiers.
Under the Leviathan management, a certain percentage from STL sales shall be given to the municipalities, the province and the police.
The two committee hearings were attended by representatives of non-government organizations, student groups and various sectors of society. (PF/PIA-ZN) [top]
