Tagum conducts disaster assessment

Davao City (22 October) -- Combined with planning and workshop, the Local Government of Tagum led by City Mayor Rey T. Uy conducted a two day Disaster Assessment activity.

Spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) of Tagum with their City Local Government Operation Officer Eliza P. Mendoza, in cooperation with the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) led by ABC President Coun. Alfredo Pagdilao, the event was successfully conducted at Mikos Brew, Tagum City.

A total of one hundred forty five (145) public servants from Local and National Government Agencies, Department Heads (LGU Tagum, Department of Public Works and Highways, Phil. National Red Cross, City Disaster Coordinating Council), Tagum Barangay Officials, Sangguniang Kabataan Chairmen, Non-Government Organizations and men in uniform of Philippine National Police, participated the short notice emergency caucus of key government personnel of the city.

"The disaster assessment will lead to a better disaster management preparation. It will minimize the ill-effect of natural calamities that might cause loss of lives, destruction of properties, and environmental damages if mitigating measures will not be established," says Mayor Uy.

The workshop includes the sharing of opinions, heated discussions and presentation of flood prone areas. The disaster preparedness campaign will reduce fear and anxiety among the constituents of Tagum.

There could be no guarantee of a hazard-free disaster when nature calls for it. It is why a device on Better Disaster Management Plan has to be established. With such deep concern of Mayor Uy for his people, the Disaster Assessment was quickly organized for a greater prevention if natural disaster occurs in the city. God forbid! (CIO TAGUM) [top]
