DOLE names Productivity Olympics winners

Davao City (23 October) -- The Department of Labor and Employment thru its attached agency, the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), selected the national winners of the National Productivity Olympics on October 22, 2009 in Manila.

Earlier last May 8, this year, the NWPC and the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board XI launched the Productivity Olympics 2009 at the Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City.

It is a national competition of best productivity practices of micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) nationwide. Its theme for 2009 is "Enhancing Quality and Productivity towards Competitiveness." The objectives of the competition are: to intensify national awareness and commitment to quality and productivity; and showcase best productivity improvement practices.

The criteria for the contest are : Best in People Development and Best in Business Excellence. The award categories are: Micro, Small and Medium for Agribusiness, Industry and Services. Nine (9) out of the twenty-two (22) national finalists are expected to win in these nine (9) categories.

For Region XI, the National Screening Committee (NSC) chose two finalists: Lao Integrated Farms, a small agribusiness enterprise based in Bansalan, Davao del Sur and the AMS Employees Fresh Fruits Producers Cooperative, a medium agribusiness enterprise based in Kapalong, Davao del Norte.

The productivity achievements of Lao Integrated Farms include: Vermicast fertilizer; Epektibo, Mura at Natural Repellant (EMAN); Bio-gas Heater; Organic Fertilizer; Coco Sugar Production; Coco Syrup (Honey) Production; Increased coco sugar production and construction of production building. The productivity achievements of AMS Employees Fresh Fruits Producers Cooperative (AMSEFFPCO) include: Banana Expansion Program; Banana Flour Production; Vermi Composing and Bio Organic Fertilizer Production.

After the selection of the national winners on October 22, 2009, awarding ceremonies will be held on October 29, 2009 at the Bayview Park Hotel, Manila.

The awards and incentives await the winners: Productivity Olympics 2009 trophy and certificates; Cash award; Use of productivity Olympics 2009 Award Logo for publicity purposes for three (3) years, 2009-2011; and priority endorsement to other training programs and services of the NWPC/RTWPBs and other DOLE agencies.
