Davao City to hold climate change summit

Davao City (24 October) -- Davao City is determined to hold a summit on climate change through which it would come up with its Action Plan on Climate Change.

Davao City Councilor Leonardo Avila of the City Committee on Environment told the media that the summit would be held before the end of the year.

He said he would be conferring Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte regarding the summit which would form part of the activities that the Davao City Task Force on Climate Change would be undertaking.

He explained that the task force will formulate an action plan, and will submit it to the Office of the Mayor to act on concerns needing executive actions.

It will also be submitting to the Sangguniang Panlungsod concerns which need legislative response.

Offhand, Avila is looking at measures to address expected increase in levels of temperature in the city and the possible rise in sea level along the city's coastal areas.

"How shall we adopt to these situations," he posed the question.

Disaster risk reduction management is also one of the concerns that Avila is, offhand, looking into as part of the major concerns of Task Force on Climate Change.

Avila yesterday revealed the moves of Davao City government on climate change after attending the Public Consultation on Clean Development Mechanism and Climate Change at the Grand MenSeng Hotel.

It was organized by the Department of Energy in cooperation with the Philippine Information Agency. (CIO) [top]
