Businesses urged to allow employees time for voter's registration

Davao City (24 October) -- The Department of Labor and Employment has called on all employers in the private sector to allow its employees to participate in Comelec registration activities during working days.
DOLE's Advisory No. 7 series of 2009 released last October 5 2009, is pursuant to Commission on Elections (Comelec's) resolution no. 8669 which urged all private sector employers to observe compliance with the full implementation of Republic Act 8189 or otherwise known as the "Continuing Voter's Registration Act of 1996.
Further Comelec resolutions particularly Resolution No. 8511 promulgated on November 12, 2008 as amended by Resolution No. 8585 has fixed the dates for the filing of applications for registration, transfer/reactivation/correction/reinstatement of name in the registration records from December 2, 2008 to October 31, 2009.
The DOLE said that with the deadline fast approaching the private sector could consider the absences of their employees which were spent on Comelec registration activities be excused or considered as official time. (Comelec/PIA XI) [top]
