Panabo PCCDC conducts mangrove planting
Panabo City (30 October) -- In support of Mayor Silvosa's campaign to protect the environment, the City Cooperative Development Council in coordination with City Environment Natural Resources (CENRO) conducted a Mangrove planting at Barangay Cagangohan on October 20, 2009.
The said activity is in line with the celebration of cooperative month that started last October 4, 2009 at the Tagum City. This is one of the objectives of the group not only to focus on the loans and other business transaction but also engage into environmental awareness such as to protect the mangroves in the city.
Around 150 members from the different Cooperatives in Panabo City joined the mangrove tree planting. Before going to the shoreline site located 1 kilometer away from the city proper, the group was given a briefing on how to properly plant the bakhaw tree in Cagangohan shoreline.
Maluo Berdon, City Cooperative Development Officer, said that it is necessary to replenish the depleted mangrove in this area as the trees provide protection to fingerlings from predators and strong current of the sea. (MarkGellor - City Information Office - LGU Panabo) [top]
