Lagawe, Ifugao (5 December) -- In efforts to rehabilitate malnourished children in the 11 municipalities here, the provincial government implemented the project, "Adopt a malnourished child".
Spearheaded by the Provincial Planning and Development Office, the project covered 111 malnourished children all over the province. Ten children from each municipality who were identified were given assistance from donors.
The project seeks to give malnourished children the chance to live a normal healthy and happy childhood. It is dedicated to uplift the nutritional status of malnourished pre-school children. It also offers a venue for concerned individuals and organizations in the community to support the nutrition program of the province.
The PPDO maintains that malnutrition is a profound indicator of poverty and a huge hindrance in achieving development in any community.
The malnutrition rate in 2008 is 5.90% from previous year's 6.56%, a meager improvement of.66%.
The absolute number of malnourished pre-school children all over the province is 1,368 composed of 100 below normal very low and 1,268 below normal low. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
