Iloilo's 2nd flyover finished by June 2010

by T. Villavert

Iloilo City (6 January) -- The P386.6 million flyover project in Iloilo City which President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo inspected January 5 is expected to help propel the economic activity in the Region.

Presidential Assistant for Western Visayas Raul Banias disclosed in media interviews that the second flyover currently constructed at the junction of General Luna and Jalandoni streets, is President Arroyo's major project.

The first flyover in the city was built two years ago at the junction of Infante and General Luna streets.

The construction of the second flyover started December 22, 2009 and it is expected to address the traffic congestion within the city and adjoining areas.

The Arroyo administration is pouring billions of pesos to the various infrastructure projects in the country as part of her Medium-Term Public Investment Program from 2006 to 2010.

Director Rolando Asis of the DPWH 6 said during the PIA interview that the transport sector is an important component of the economy impacting on development and the welfare of populations.

He said that the transport sector really helps improve the region's socio-economic condition, for it opens employment and investment opportunities. (PIA6) [top]
