Silliman seeks justice for murdered student

Dumaguete City (16 January) -- Silliman University has condemned the murder of sophomore Mass Communication student Jayfel Rayoso whose body was recovered near a dry creek in Brgy. Isugan, Bacong town on January 12.
In a statement released by SU's Office of Information and Publications Director Mark Raygan Garcia, the latter said that the University community is deeply saddened by "such gruesome act (which) robbed us of a talented student who showed great potential in his chosen field.
Garcia said the university is calling on local authorities to ensure the speedy resolution of the case, "so that those behind his murder can be put behind bars."
"We pose a challenge to our police authorities, and seek the public's cooperation, in finding ways to prevent crimes of this nature and other forms of violence from further degrading our community," stressed Garcia.
Jayfel Rayoso, 18, has been reported missing since last week.
The body found in Isugan, Bacong has been identified by the victim's family and classmates through his flip-flops, cellphone cover and clothes.
Bacong police authorities are still facing a blank wall on their investigation on said murder. (PIA/rmn) [top]
