PIA Press Release

LTO chief highlights citizen's charter, road safety advocacy

Tacloban City (January 28) -- The Citizen's Charter together with the Road Safety Program may as well be the centerpiece of Land Transportation Office operations.

To underscore this, Land Transportation Office Chief Arturo Lomibao was in Tacloban City on January 26 to witness the launching of the LTO Citizen's Charter and the launching of LTO's Road Safety Advocacy Program.

The Citizen's Charter is based on LTO vision of establishing a well-developed transportation system that will play a vital role in improving the lives of the Filipino people and since travel is an unavoidable part of daily life, LTO's goal is to provide the people with a more viable, efficient and secured travel, the LTO Chief said.

To make the public benefit from government service particularly LTO's services, the agency is bent on assuring the public that the agency is capable of accomplishing its task in a fast and efficient manner.

The LTO chief, during the press conference, said that one of the reasons for his visit to the Region is to inspect the performance of LTO 8.

"I am glad that LTO8 is keeping up with the performance standards of the LTO Central Office," the LTO Chief said.

He added that another reason for his visit is to continue the dialogue regarding the Radio Frequency ID which is now a pending project of the LTO.

The reason why LTO is launching the Road Safety Advocacy Project is because it has been observed that in the last five years, road accidents have increased by 5% every year.

In the year 2009, there were 20,000 road accidents where 2,000 people were killed and a number of people injured. In 2008, there were about 16,000 road accidents.

The objective of LTO is to mitigate the occurrence of road accidents through advocacy among its employees, its stakeholders and the community including the media as a whole.

The whole day activity started with a motorcade along the City's major thoroughfares. This was followed by the launching of the Citizen's Charter with a representative of the Civil Service Commission and the Ombudsman, Atty. Aldas, witnessing, LTO 8 officials led by Director Alex Leyson and the stakeholders. (PIA 8) [top]
