Army, Carmen town launch feeding project in Lumad community

Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte (2 February) -- A Lumad community benefitted again from the Feeding Project sponsored by the 1003rd Infantry (Raptor) Brigade in partnership with the Brgy Council of Alejal and LGU of Carmen, Davao del Norte that was formally launched in the morning of January 30, 2010. Around 150 Lumad residents benefitted from the feeding program in Barangay Alejal.

A short program commenced were Hon Francisco Intong Jr., Brgy Chairman welcomed the soldiers headed by BGen Eduardo Del Rosario, Commander of 1003rd Infantry Brigade, Col Domingo Tutaan, Deputy Commander, Maj Sandy David, Operations Officer and 1Lt Harold Ho, CMO Officer.

In his speech, BGen Del Rosario talked about the role of the soldiers in protecting the people and as partners in nation building. He also explained the CPP-NPA-NDF's dual revolutionary tactics on waging an armed revolution and legal struggle in order to overthrow the democratic form of government

Afterwards, Hon Marcelino Perandos, Mayor of Carmen gave his message were he appreciated all the efforts of the military in his municipality. He sad: "In behalf my people, I congratulate the military for keeping up the good work in maintaining the peace and order in my area. I also appreciate their efforts in rendering community oriented services to my constituents".

After the program, the soldiers served the newly cooked "Lugaw" and cold juices to the children and adults who lined up to get their share. Some went back to get another round of serving because they enjoyed its taste. Brgy officials together with the soldiers were the ones who prepared the ingredients and cooked the delicious "Lugaw."

Same activity was also held in Sitio Maguintalunan, Brgy New Visayas, Sto Tomas of same province yesterday morning January 31, 2010 were around 200 Lumad residents benefitted from the same project that started last January 3, 2010 and will end by June of this year. The activity is in partnership of the brigade with the Baptist Mission Church and Maguintalunan Tribal Council.

BGen Del Rosario said: "We will initiate more projects in our own capacity that will give any form of assistance to our less fortunate Lumad brothers. It is our responsibility as soldier and as a citizen to offer assistance to those who needed our help. Let us involve ourselves and do our part in the society"

The Feeding Project is one of the activities under the Adopt-A-Lumad Barangay (ALB) Program of the brigade, in partnership by the military units with the LGUs, NGO, POs and other stakeholders purposely to help Lumads, especially the children to alleviate their malnutrition.

Other projects include donation of sewing machine, Jetmatic pump, the construction of deep well water system and renovation of chapel in Sitios Maguintalunan and Salaran, Brgy New Visayas, Sto Tomas, Davao del Norte. (10th ID) [top]
