Mori pledges continued support to 4Ps in Caraga

by Sheryll Jane Canico

Caraga, Davao Oriental (11 February) -- "Buhaton nako ang tanan isip Mayor nga magpadayon ang 4Ps sa atoang munisipalidad (As Mayor, I will do everything so that 4Ps will continue in our municipality)," Caraga Mayor Alicia Mori enthused.

Caraga, Davao Oriental is one of the three areas in Region XI identified by 4Ps in its Set 1 of implementation in the region. It currently has 2,510 beneficiaries.

Mayor Mori has been the Municipal Mayor of Caraga since 1992 vouched in her declaration that 4Ps is one the best government-initiated programs that ever reached their municipality.

"Isip inahan sa munisipalidad sa Caraga dako gyud akoang pasalamat sa 4Ps kay nakita gyud nako nga dako siya og natabang sa mga katawhan sa Caraga, ilabi na sa mga bata (Being the mother of the municipality of Caraga, I am very thankful to 4Ps because I have observed the changes and improvements it gave the people of Caraga, especially their children)," Mori stated.

She added that Barangay Poblacion now has two day care centers since 4Ps started. She also requested seven more day care centers be erected in the other barangays.

"There should be a full-blast implementation of 4Ps by reiteration of the conditionalities to the beneficiaries. As beneficiaries, they should be well-informed and should know the program by heart," Mayor Mori pointed out.

Mayor Mori is also glad that 4Ps paved the way for the empowerment of beneficiaries. "The assignation of some beneficiaries as parent leaders provided them the skills to spearhead in the implementation of the program in their respective barangay. This also serves as training ground for them to be effective leaders in other community undertakings."

Furthermore, Mayor Mori promised that after her term as Municipal Mayor, she will continue what she had started as a major stakeholder of the program. "My commitment is to continue what I have started as Caraga Mayor. I will continue to support the program even after my term as Mayor ends," she continued.

As the municipal mayor, she confidently affirms that since 4Ps came, her constituents are now more conscious on the importance of health and education. She also added that they are more involved in community activities.

In five years' time, Mori envisions the people of Caraga as more educated on the importance of health and education. She said the values the program taught to the Caraga folks will be sustained. (DSWD) [top]
